The Contemplative Art of Printing and Folding an Artist’s Book

“My perfect day is sitting in a room with some blank paper. That’s heaven. That’s gold.”

– Cormac McCarthy

Dr Charlie Lee-Potter will lead a day-long session in which students will first cut, ink and print their own linocuts using a small printing press. The finished prints will form the covers of creative writing notebooks, to be folded and stitched in the afternoon. Once the books are finished and the covers attached, some students may want to start writing, using the handwriting inks which Charlie makes from foraged and found ingredients. Others may simply enjoy the soothing period of calm that comes from savouring the beauty of the blank page.
